Remedy for the cable pinching situation
on first models Only (early2006)

You need to remove all the cable from the winch by pulling the release handle on the end and giving a quarter turn (without the kart on the stand!!). It is easy once you see how it attaches, it just pushes out. Then shorten it to 21 feet by wrapping with electrical tape and cutting (a hammer and sharp chisel will do it or a pneumatic cut off tool). Bolt cutters will make a mess of it, a hack saw w/fine blade in a pinch. Remove the tape. Then solder the end as it was from the factory or heat it and melt some lead on it and file or grind even.
Caution: lead is poisonous take precautions to avoid ingesting grinding or filing dust

When the cable is off remove the winch from the stand and remove the metal spring steel that applies pressure to the cable. Remove the bolts 4mm Allen head, and place it in a vice and tap with a hammer to bend tighter. Enough so the metal is close to the spool, almost touching. DO NOT TRY TO BEND IT WHILE IT IS BOLTED IN PLACE!!!! THE LITTLE BOLTS WILL SNAP... TRUST ME ON THIS. When done replace on the stand.

Slide the cable back in, bend it over as it was before, a little tricky but doable, I use vice grips. Use a hammer to tap it all the way back in while pulling it in. This will all make sense when you see how the cable attaches. Then use leather gloves when re-winding the spool with the hand control. Keep it even and tight.

It sounds like a lot of work but takes less than an hour and is worth the effort. I do this for all the stands now, it only takes 20 min when doing the final assembly, and sorry I didn't realize this trick sooner.
